Casa Lopez is located on the next block south of the bus station .. packages should be addressed to Boat Name, c/Casa Lopez, #36 Calle Durate, Luperon, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic phone is 809 836 1042 the package to avoid duty import charge has to be under $200 or it may be held for expensive import fees. check with Anna at her grocery store for info and fees.
Nino’s Taxi is used by the majority of cruisers to go to Puerto Plata or Santiago to catch a plane or shop,etc. His phone is 809 493 6950. Nino speaks good english and is very helpful in interpreting your shopping needs into Spanish. He charges around $50 US for the trip. It can also entail sightseeing or food shopping.
Abel Mini Market is located near the gate to the government dock. They have beer, food, rum, and all types of food stuff and soft drinks. Check out their prices and service to the cruising community.
Wendys Bar is a very friendly bar catering to the cruising community. Say hello to Wendy and enjoy here monday and tuesday movie nights, karioke on fridays, gathering and water hole for the saturday cruisers vs local softball game, and drink specials on other days.
JRs Tropical Bistro is also close to the government dock and has activities for the cruisers as well as drink and food specials. Movies are on thursday and friday, wednesday is trivia night, tuesday is taco day, and happy hour is daily. JRs is closed on sunday and monday, but stop by and say hello to Gil, a cruiser turned local bar owner.
Calamity Canvas is also a business owned by a cruiser. Ron is able to meet your canavs needs at Luperon prics. Calamity Canvas can be reached at 829 325 6987 or hailed on VHF CH68. He’ll keep you in stitches.
In harbour services include Poppo, who can deliver water, fuel and supplies to your boat. He also leases moorings and can be reached on channel 68. Pedro works with Poppo and does underwater hull cleaning. Poppo has in the past helped with breakaway boats and is very helpful to the cruisers.
Handy Andy also works the harbour and provides similar services. He can also be reached on VHF 68.
Passages South, by Bruce Van Sant, is the an excellent reference book for the town as well providing good cruising strategies for this area.
